About Mel
By day, Melanie Duncan is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) and International Baccalaureate (IB) qualified educator who has also worked as a tutor, organizational coach and blog content writer.
Before education, her first love was art.
Mel studied Visual Arts and Art Theory at the University of Ottawa and has worked at galleries across Ontario including the National Gallery of Canada. Her current medium of choice is watercolour paints, obsessed with their stunning, ethereal quality.

How it's made
The process starts with cold-pressed watercolour paper that has a gorgeous texture. Then, reference images are printed out and used for sketching and colour matching. Next, a light pad helps trace major outlines and key features of the subject. Last but not least - Mel's favourite step - bringing your custom piece to life with watercolour paint!
